ABS Modulator Facts
An ABS Modulator controls the pressure that is applied to the brakes whilst driving maintaining traction and stops the vehicles steering from locking.
The Modulators are made up of valves that are electronically operated and control hydraulic movement, by applying varied amounts of force they hold and release the brakes. When the brakes are
pressed, fluid is transferred to solenoid valves located for each wheel. If the system senses a wheel is going to lock, it will automatically reduce the fluid intake to that wheel, in order to stop it from locking up and will monitor and increase the fluid if necessary to regulate it.
A foam noise reducer for Modulator valves reduces
noise and are preferable to an open-celled structures as they are not
penetrable to dirt, moisture, oil and alcohol.
If the system is faulty it will shut down but the power assisted brakes continue to work and compensate. Loss of brake fluid will disable the modulator and the system will run an automatic check a yellow warning light will indicate a problem with the anti-lock braking or traction control system.
