Audi A4 Common Problems and Solutions
Gearbox problems
Problem:
If you find that the gear changing is very hesitant, or clunky when driving around town on an automatic, CVT or multitronic gearbox, then it is known for these gearboxes to have software problems.
Solution:
You will need to take the car to an Audi dealer to have the software re-programmed. This should sort out this problem. If the car is still under warranty, it will be fixed for free, otherwise it is your responsibility.

Seat belt buckle failure
Problem:
It is known on the A4, for the seat belt buckles not to lock, failing prematurely.
Solution:
You will need to fit replacement seat belt buckles, so as to sort this problem.

Glove box lid failure
Problem:
The glove box lid not working properly is a common problem on the A4, especially the Avant model. If it is rattling and not opening properly, then it is known for premature wear.
Solution:
You will need to replace the glove box lid, in order to resolve the problem.

Rear window wiper problem
Problem:
On the A4 Avant in particular, it is known for the rear window wipers to fail. This is caused by the wiper motor failing.
Solution:
Fitting a replacement wiper motor will resolve the issue.

Water leaking into passenger foot well area
Problem:
It is known for water to leak into the passenger foot-well area, due to the plenum chamber getting blocked with leaves and debris. Water runs down the windscreen and fills up this chamber, which has a drainage hole. When the chamber gets blocked, water spills into the passenger foot well. The plenum chamber is responsible for giving air to the air-conditioning system.
Solution:
Clearing out the leaves and debris will sort this problem. The drain underneath the battery could also be blocked. Check out the video below:
