Citroen C6 Common Problems and Solutions
Water in Boot
Problem:
There is water in your boot.
Solution:
Some C6s were sold with misaligned boot lids. That means they don't seal perfectly when closed. If you take your car to a Citroen dealer, they will usually remove and reinstall your boot for free.

Problem:
When you start the car from cold, it is much louder than you'd expect.
Solution:
This will be a simple case of a burnt-out glow plug. Order a replacement for any worn glow plugs using our registration number search function.

Loss Of Turbo
Problem:
One of your turbos is failing to kick in.
Solution:
Most turbo problems on the C6 are caused by a broken electric vacuum valve. Order all four valves from our parts list and easily install them yourself.

Liquid Leaking From Steering Rack
Problem:
There is a clear or pink liquid leaking from your power steering rack.
Solution:
You can replace the seals on your steering rack, but this is a very challenging job. Most drivers prefer to replace the entire power steering rack as this is a much easier job. Rough Idling
Problem:
The car is running rough when idling. You may also notice that you're using more fuel than you used to, and the engine might start to stall regularly.
Solution:
The EGR valves on the C6 are extremely prone to rapid failure and will need to be replaced. You can find new valves on our parts list, and we always have them available for quick delivery.

Suspension problems
Problem:
A common suspension problem is to hear a thudding noise coming from the suspension when driving over speed bumps or rough surfaces. This noise is usually caused by a fault with the anti-roll bar drop links.
Solution:
Fitting replacement anti-roll bar drop links will fix the problem.

Gearbox problems
Problem:
A particular gearbox issue on the C6 is for the gearbox struggling to engage from second to third gear. You will hear unusually high revs at this change if there is a problem. There is also a known issue with the gearbox struggling to engage in reverse.
Solution:

Air conditioning problems
Problem:
If you are finding that the air on the air conditioning is not ice cold when you are trying to use the coldest setting (This is a known issue on the C6). You may also notice that there is a funny smell coming from the air vents.
Solution:
The usual cause of this problem is that the system needs re-gassed. If you are having the funny smell from the air vents, this is caused by a build up of bacteria. You will need to flush out the system to remove the bacteria and then re-gas the air conditioning system. The video below shows how to re-gas the air conditioning system:

Rust issues
Problem:
There are known rust issues around the rear windows on the C6. Rusting is a particular problem around the area where the seals connect to the windows. You should check along these areas for signs of corrosion.
Solution:
If you find rust in this area, depending on how bad it is will determine if you need to remove the window to sort the problem. You will need to rub down the affected area, treat it and then touch up with the correct paint.
