Mitsubishi Space Wagon Common Problems and Solutions
Starting problems when engine is warm
Problem:
If you are facing starting problems when the engine is warm, the usual cause of this is the crankshaft position sensor. If the vehicle starts ok when the engine is cold but not when it is warm, this may not be the cause of the problem.
Solution:
Run a diagnostic check to ensure this is the cause of the failure. Once you have identified this as the cause, you will need to fit a replacement crankshaft position sensor to sort the problem.

Engine management warning light/juddering when cold
Problem:
The engine temperature sensor can fail on this vehicle. If it does the engine management warning light will appear on the dashboard. You will also be finding that the vehicle judders until the temperature of the engine warms up. Once the engine is warm, the light will most likely go off.
Solution:
You will need to fit a replacement engine temperature sensor to fix this problem.
Difficulty level
Engine tapping noise
Problem:
A common issue on the Space Wagon is to hear a tapping noise coming from the engine. This is caused by a problem with the tappets.
Solution:
You need to have the tappets adjusted to resolve the issue.
Difficulty level
Hesitation/lack of power
Problem:
The problem with carbon build up is also an issue with the Space Wagon, like it is on many other vehicles. The throttle body can get blocked up which causes hesitation, lack of acceleration and/or a lack of power. Another symptom of this issue could be rough engine idling.
Solution:
You need to remove the throttle body and clean it out with something like a toothbrush and some throttle body cleaner. If you find that this does not work, Mitsubishi has their own carbon cleaning solution which you spray into the inlet area. Watch the video below to see how to clean the throttle body:
