First Generation Volkswagen Touran (2003 To 2010)

Volkswagen launched the first Touran in 2003, joining its existing MPV lineup, which included the Sharan and Caravelle. The Mk1 offered buyers a 1.6 FSI engine, or two diesel engines, including a 1.9 TDI with 74 kW and a 2.0 TDI 103 kW. The Touran introduced electro mechanical steering. This was a first in its class and for Volkswagen. Another first for the VW Group was Park Assist which was introduced to the facelifted Touran in 2007. This improved Touran was first shown at the Paris Motor Show in 2006.

Second Generation Volkswagen Touran (2010 To 2015)

The second generation VW Touran was updated to a newer Golf VI platform, including new features such as light assist for Xenon headlights and an improved Park Assist System. New engines were made available, including a 1.2 litre with 77 kW and a new 1.6 Common Rail TDI with 66 kW. Volkswagen also made BlueMotion an option as part of their low fuel consumption vehicle program. A third generation Touran is to be released in the near future, with a new model being introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 2015.

History of Volkswagen Touran

The Volkswagen Touran is a compact MPV that has been in production since 2003. So far there have been two generations of the Touran, both of which have proven popular within the European market. The Mk1 was awarded What Car? Compact Van of the Year award in 2005. Based on a vertically stretched Volkswagen Golf Mk5, the Touran is a reliable MPV that was made to fill a gap in VW''s lineup, packed with useful features. The Touran is a spacious vehicle, known for its solid cabin and great driving performance. It offers a comfortable ride and an excellent range of powerful engines. The boot however is small, and the design itself is quite bland. But that doesn''t mean it falls short of safety features. It''s a reliable vehicle, receiving five stars at the Euro NCAP crash tests in 2003. Warranty Direct ranked it 38th in a list of 52 MPVs, with a reliability index score of 182. Compared to last place''s 575 and first''s 23, this is a fairly average score. The index''s scores are based on various reliability factors, such as the number of times a car fails, the cost of repair and the average time spent off the road due to repairs being done.
