The MORGAN Areo 8 is a Sports car designed and currently built by the Morgan Motor Company in their factory in Malvern Link, Great Britain (an area of Malvern in Worcestershire). It was the first Morgan vehicle with an alloy chassis (the Aero 8 features a CAD-designed Aluminum alloy adhered to a wood frame as opposed to previous Morgan vehicles that were built on a steel chassis). The engine powering the Aero 8 is a 4400 cc V8 built by BMW and is mated to a 6-Speed Getrag transmission. All Aero 8's are built by hand in Morgan's Malvern Link factory., where they are able to produce up to 9 cars a week.
The MORGAN 4/4 was Morgan Motor Company's first real car with four wheels. Its model designation "4-4" stood for four wheels and four cylinders. Earlier Morgans had been three-wheelers, only, typically with V-twin engines. Apart from a break during World War II the 4/4 has been in continuous production until today. Engine capacity has increased from the 1122cc Coventry Climax engine in 1936 to a 1.8 litre Ford engine in 2004.
The MORGAN Plus 4 (or +4) was a longer version of the Morgan Motor Company's 4/4 model. The Plus 4 was fitted with a 2088 cc engine based on that used in the Standard Vanguard fitted in a strengthened and longer chassis. The radiator grille was now surrounded by a cowl that blended into the bonnet. Hydraulic brakes, at first all drum, were fitted for the first time on a Morgan. Body styles available were a 2 seat sports, 4 seat sports and more luxurious 4 seat drophead.
The MORGAN Plus 8 which for many years used the 3.5L (215ci) aluminium V8 licenced from GM (shared with Rover), though later versions of the engine were provided in 3.9L, 4.0L and 4.6L capacities. This was powered by a fuel-injected 196hp Rover V8 in its final iteration and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds. Enthusiasts work on the engine, exhaust and electronic chip management to improve this figure. Modern Morgans are legally imported into the United States once more.
