The Manta was based on the Opel Ascona of the time, as a competitor to the Ford Capri. It was a two-door "three-box" coupé, and featured distinctive round tail lights, quite similar to the Opel GT. Usually equipped with 1.6 - 1.9 litre CIH engines, from October 1974 there was also a turbocharged version for the United Kingdom (UK) market. Unusually for the UK, the car was sold as an Opel rather than having a Vauxhall-branded equivalent. For a time, the Manta was offered as a captive import in the United States market
The Opel Astra Mk2 was launched in Europe in 1998 which was an improved version of the Astra G/B. It was available as a 3 and 5-door hatchback, 4-door saloon and two special versions: the Astra Coupé and the Astra Cabrio, both of them designed and built by Bertone. The biggest innovation is the introduction of a natural gas-powered engine. Its chassis was tuned by Lotus and formed the base of a seven-seater compact MPV, the Opel Zafira. Later came the Astra H/C and was based on the then-new Delta platform, its size was increased, the engines improved and the styling and interior made distinctly more dynamic. Handling was further improved with each engine provided with its own Lotus-tuned suspension settings. It is so far available as a five-door hatchback, a five-door Caravan estate and a sporty three-door hatchback, designated the GTC for European markets, Sport Hatch in the UK and the Coupé in Australia. The GTC has the option of a panoramic windscreen (unique for a production car at the time of its launch) which extends into the roof area.
Opel Rekord is an executive car from the German automaker Opel. The engine types available were 1897 cc, 1698 cc and 2068 cc CIH (cam-in-head) four-cylinder gasoline engines. There was also a diesel version with an engine whose displacement was initially 2.1 liters and after reduced to 2.0 liters. The diesel engine was higher than gasoline variants, so diesel model hoods have a raised mid-section. The six-cylinder variant of this car is called the Commodore B. Transmissions available were standard four-speed manual with either floor or steering-column shifter and TH-180 automatic transmission. The body is of unitary construction. Body types available were four-door salon, four-door estate and two-door coupe. There was also a variant called "Berlina" with more luxurious interior and wheels.
