Tata Safari is an SUV produced by Tata Motors of India. It is said to deliver almost the same power and torque as the Mitsubishi Pajero, but available at 60% price of a Pajero (although this hasn't been thoroughly confirmed). It is the first SUV developed entirely in India. It was released with a 1.9 litre Turbo Diesel engine. A 2 litre Petrol engine was added. The Tata Safari was extensively modified, which included the addition of a new 3-litre DICOR engine along with modified interiors and exteriors. This 3 litre engine is the first diesel engine from Tata Motors. When the first generation was launched in Turbo Diesel version, it had 90 bhp (67 kW) power. This SUV came with a synchromesh manual 5 forward and 1 reverse, with a 4X4 option. Though a lot of people consider that it was grossly underpowered, and had a heavy body rollover. That's because the new Tata Safari Dicor is powered by a 3000 cc inline-four that develops 114 bhp (85 kW) at 3000 rpm and 30 kgf·m (290 N·m) of torque between 1600 and 2000 rpm. The engine is taken from TATA 407,a truck manufactured by Tata Motors. The new engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox, with a new, sporty gear lever.
The
Tata Loadbeta 4X4 has an electronic four wheel drive. The interior is still reminiscent of a Lada, The fairly comfortable seats have lost their plastic and are now covered in cloth. It is a two seater, without much room for anything else. Do not confuse this intercooled turbodiesel 4x4 with the non-turbo model - this one, relatively speaking, flies and, in 4x4 guise has pretty good off-road capabilites. It now comes with Kuhno Powerguard Radial tyres, replacing the less than brilliant originals. It also comes in a variety of forms -truck cab, double cab, tipper, hardtop and estate.
