Daihatsu Terios Common Problems and Solutions
Slow Acceleration and Engine Misfiring
Problem:
Your Terios is slower to accelerate, and the engine occasionally misfires.
Solution:
The exhaust on a Terios can be very prone to excessive wear, especially if you're using the car only for short trips. Have a check of the exhaust pipe to look for damage. If you can see rust, cracks, or breakages, then you'll need to browse our online store for a replacement.

Rear washer jet failure
Problem:
Has the rear window washer jet started to fail on your Terios? If so, this is not uncommon on the Terios and is most likely caused by a blockage in the tube, or the one way valve. The tube runs from the front of the vehicle, underneath the doors, into the boot. You can gain access to the tube, by removing the kick plates. Sometimes the tube can become disconnected to the jet, causing the problem.
Solution:
You can check that the tube, or the one-way valve is blocked. If it is blocked, unblocking them will sort the problem. If the tube has been disconnected from the jet, re-connecting them together will resolve the issue.

Engine misfiring
Problem:
Have you begun to notice that the engine is misfiring? Does the vehicle have poor engine idling? If so, this sounds like a coil pack failure. The engine should be idling at just below 1000rpm, instead of idling erratically, with the rev needle jumping up and down irregularly. Another common symptom of a failed coil pack is a lack of power and possible engine cutting out.
Solution:
You will need to fit a replacement coil pack, in order to rectify the issue. Watch the video below for an idea on how to replace one:

Engine management warning light
Problem:
Has the engine management warning light appeared on the dashboard? If so, the most likely cause of this is a faulty lambda sensor. If the lambda sensor fails, you may see a slight increase in fuel consumption and/or a lack of power, when you try to accelerate.
Solution:
Run a diagnostic check, to ensure that this is the cause of the warning light. If the lambda sensor is the cause, then you will need to replace this, in order to fix the problem. We want to help you to find your replacement lambda sensor, at a very low price.

Engine Cutting Out
Problem:
When slowing down, the engine cuts out.
Solution:
If your Terios is cutting out when you pull up at junctions, then there's a very good chance that either your idle control valve or your vacuum pipe has split. Check those, and order replacements from us if you can see any damage. If they look fine, then it could be that your oil breather pipe is blocked. You'll simply have to clean it out, and the problem will be resolved.

High Fuel Consumption and Brake Judder
Problem:
You are using a lot of fuel, and you get occasional or constant brake judder.
Solution:
This will be a problem with your brake discs. The Terios can sometimes go through them a lot faster than other cars, and it's not unknown for them to need replacing every 10,000kms. Not only will you have to buy your replacement brake discs from our parts list, but you should also check the wheels themselves for any damage and replace them if necessary.
