A Dynamo is a generator of electricity for the car. The Dynamo produces the electricity by the rotation of fine wires tightly wound in a magnetic field. Magnets surround the magnetic field and a voltage or current is produced. If the magnetic field and the spin is fast more current will be produced.
The current is then sent around the car through belts and pulley that are connected to the engine which produces the spin. The faster the engine goes the faster the spin and the more electricity is produced to power the car.
The Dynamo also sends electricity to the alternator which is a vital part of the storage of power for the car and if you have a faulty alternator your battery will constantly charge down but not charge up.
