And ERG Valve or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, to give it its full name, is a very useful device that takes some of the exhaust fumes from a car and re-cycles them through the combustion system. The end result is a more complete use of the fuel and a system that releases less emissions into the atmosphere and also a cooler burn for the engine.
The EGR valve sends a specific amount of exhaust by-product back into the intake manifold. Air is taken in and mixed with the exhaust fumes thus cooling it down and stopping the release of Nitrogen gases out of the exhaust.
If the EGR valve is not functioning properly the vehicle will buck on acceleration and when the car is idling it will seem rough. The valve should be checked and replaced if necessary when you notice these symptoms. The valve can over time suffer from carbon deposit build up.
