The body controller in the door locking system is a computer in the car. As well as dictating when and how the door unlocks it defines when the interior door lights go on and off and some will beep when you open the door with the car headlights on.
The body controller will monitor all methods used to unlock the door, i.e. levers, remote locking devices and the switches or levers inside the car. The body controller will then send power to the that locks or unlocks the vehicles doors.
The actuator is often positioned below the latch and has two rods that connect to the latch and to the knob in the door that sticks up in the door near the window. If the latch is moved up the door handle will be released and open the door lock mechanism.
