A planned strike at a car parts plant has been called off less than 24 hours before staff were due to walk out.Workers at Swansea s Linamar factory had voted 139 to 19 to down tools after convenor Rob Williams was dismissed in May.But in a joint statement the company and the Unite union said he had been reinstated on Wednesday. The union said it was now looking forward to working with Linamar to secure the factory s future. The Canadian-based company took over the plant on Fabian Way from previous owners Visteon in July last year.Unite assistant general secretary Len McCluskey said:We are delighted at this outcome, which represents a victory for the solidarity of the workforce at Linamar. It is also a tribute to the wider support for Rob expressed by the labour movement throughout Wales in particular. Now this dispute is behind us, we are looking forward to working constructively with the company to help secure the future of the Swansea plant in the very difficult worldwide economic environment.
