A car parts manufacturing firm in Cambridgeshire has announced it is to close, with the loss of hundreds of jobs. Thyssenkrupp Tallent is closing its base at Bourn Airfield where about 490 people are employed. The company makes chassis, axle and suspension parts for major vehicle manufacturers across the world. The firm transferred to Bourn from Bedford in 2000. Union representatives said they were in talks with managers. Bob Wells from the GMB Union said representatives were trying to save as many jobs as possible. The base has a sister company in Durham which is not believed to be affected. Peter Scherrer from the European Metal Workers Federation has flown in to lend support to workers at the Cambridgeshire base.
