Car dismantlers have high hopes as well.Officials with Schnitzer Steel Industries, the parent company of Fairfield's Pick-N-Pull Auto Dismantlers, are anticipating 'a significant positive response' from dealers as the program goes forward, they said in a press release. The program offers rebates for owners who trade in an old car and buy a new, more-efficient one. Dealers, however, face potential fines or penalties if trade-in vehicles aren't processed and destroyed. The program only began July 27, and spokeswoman Jan Daniels said many dealers are deciding to wait to dismantle the trade-in cars until they get reimbursed by the government.
