Why buy new parts

Besides the exorbitant price, why should we use new parts when the cars are already old? It does not make any economical sense to use new parts on old cars. We use old cars because we cannot afford to buy new cars. We continue to use them as they are still in good running condition and we only need to change the parts when they are worn out.
