History of Nissan Terrano

The Nissan Terrano is a midsize SUV that was in production between the years of 1993 and 2006. Available as a three- and five-door wagon body style, the Terrano is a part of Nissan''s Pathfinder range which began production in 1985. The vehicle is marketed as the Pathfinder in all areas across the globe, other than in parts of Europe and India, where it is referred to as the Terrano II or Terrano. Over the years, only one generation was made. The Nissan Terrano is known for being a large, spacious and comfortable vehicle. Honest John describes the Terrano as a robust old school four by four that is capable off road. They admire its long wheelbase models, which seat seven. They also praise its ''phenomenal'' mileages. However, they criticise the Terrano for its ''patchy'' build quality and performance.

First Generation Nissan Terrano (1993 - 2006)

The Pathfinder began production in 1985. However, Europe''s Terrano didn''t begin production until February 1993. It was manufactured by Nissan''s subsidiary, Nissan Motor Iberica S.A., serving the European market. It was known for being spacious, offering a great wheelbase and having a generally taller body than competitors. It was initially offered with a 2.4 litre KA24E petrol engine and 2.7 TD turbodiesel engine. Nissan later made the petrol engine fuel injected and made the diesel intercooled. From 1999, Nissan began offering the Terrano with a 3.0 TDI DOHC, direct injected and turbo diesel intercooled engine.

The Terrano received multiple facelifts. The first took place in 1996, when Nissan gave the car round headlights. It was facelifted again in 1999, gaining a new front fascia that was more in line with contemporary Nissans. The Terrano was also given an updated interior. The final facelift took place in 2002, when the truck received the same steering wheel as the Nissan Primera P12. This facelifted model was presented at the Geneva Motor Show. When production ceased in 2006, the Nissan Terrano was replaced indirectly by three models: the new Nissan Pathfinder, Qashqai and X-Trail, which had been sold alongside the Terrano since 2001.
