History of Toyota Avensis

The Toyota Avensis is a large family car that has been in production since 1997. Produced in Derbyshire, Toyota has given the world three generations of the Avensis so far. It''s loved for its comfortable interior, effortless driving performance and extensive range of standard equipment. The Toyota Avensis has won numerous awards, including ''Best Family Estate'' in 2012. The Avensis is known for offering its owners a spacious cabin and a comfortable drive, but many refer to it as ''bland'' due to its rather average design. It is however a reliable vehicle, which is what you want with a family car. In fact, Euro NCAP gave the Toyota Avensis five stars at its crash tests in 2009. Warranty Direct ranked it eighth out of 26 family cars, based on various aspects related to reliability, including the number of times a car fails, the costs of repair and how much time it spends off the road due to repairs. It scored a strong reliability index score of 71, compared to first place''s 25 and last place''s 201.

First Generation Toyota Avensis (1997 To 2003)

The Mk1 Avensis was released in 1997, giving buyers the option of four engines: 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre petrols and a 2.0 litre turbodiesel. Three body styles were made available, including a saloon, hatchback and estate. The Avensis received a facelift in 2000 when engines were fitted with variable valve timing, and satellite navigation was included as standard.

Second Generation Toyota Avensis (2003 To 2009)

The second generation Avensis was launched in 2003, with a slight redesign to give the car a more visual appeal as well as various drive improvements. The 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre petrol and 2.0 litre turbodiesel engines from the previous ranges were carried over with the Mk2. It was available as a four-door saloon, five-door hatchback and five-door estate.

Third Generation Toyota Avensis (2009 To Present)

The Mk3 was revealed at the Paris Motor Show in 2008 and went on sale in January 2009. Toyota made the third generation Avensis available as a four-door saloon and five-door estate. Some great options are offered with the Mk3, including bi-xenon HID headlamps, Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS) and adaptive cruise control. It''s great for safety, giving its owners seven airbags as standard, including two front row side torso airbags, two side curtain airbags for both rows and a driver''s knee airbag. It''s no wonder Euro NCAP gave the latest Toyota Avensis five stars, with a 90% score for adult occupant safety and an overall score of 81%.
