About Brake Hoses

The BMW brake hose is the pipe system that contains the hydraulic fluid that is an integral part of the braking system. When the footbrake is applied the fluid is forced, via a master cylinder and brake servo system, through the pipes to the pistons in the calipers in each wheel, which forces the pads onto the brake discs, or the brake shoes onto the inside of the drums, and this slows the spinning of the wheels.

The brake hoses are made up of rigid and flexible pipes. The rigid pipe is usually made of steel and may be plastic coated and is fixed to the bodywork. It runs from the engine compartment under the car to each wheel. There is a flexible section that connects the rigid pipe to the wheel brake backplate and into the brake piston on each wheel. The flexible pipe is a made of rubber encased in braided metal.

Problems with brake hoses are commonly caused by corrosion or chafing resulting in leakage of the hydraulic fluid and resulting loss of pressure and brake failure. New piping is supplied pre-formed to fit every particular make and model as it has to follow a certain route and length. BMW brake hose is the ideal replacement, designed specifically for the make and model of your vehicle.

BMW trivia

  • It might not be the accessory that everyone needs, but for BMW drivers in South Africa who were worried about carjackers, the 'Blaster' was a flamethrower that shot huge flames from either side of the car. Not currently available in the UK…
  • One of the reasons older BMWs keep their value is because it's easy to get spare parts for even the oldest models. That's because BMW has carried on making car parts, even for cars that were built in WWII.
  • The BMW 3.0CSL was sold in the 70s and had the unusual addition of a spoiler that was kept in the boot. The owner could install it if they wanted to, but BMW couldn't sell the car with the spoiler attached because of road laws!
  • Electric cars might be all the rage now, but BMW built their first one in 1972 and called it the BMW 1602e. It didn't quite make it to market though, thanks to the fact that it could only hold a twenty-minute charge.
  • Think you know what BMW is an acronym of? If you answered Broke My Wallet, you’re definitely wrong. It really stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke (which is Bavarian Motor Works in English).
