About Cowl Top Panels
Certain car parts exist to protect the vehicle against damage from external sources. An important component to protect the engine and other mechanical parts under the bonnet is the BMW cowl top panel. Items of debris such as leaves, dirt and twigs can cause considerable damage to these expensive parts and the cowl top panel provides an invaluable shield.
The BMW cowl top panel is situated at the base of the windscreen, close to where the windscreen wipers are attached to the car. It is generally made from plastic and has grilles to permit ventilation but keep unwanted debris out.
If a BMW cowl top panel is damaged it loses its effectiveness as a shield and will need to be replaced. Fortunately, most motor accessory dealers stock replacement cowl top panels for all popular models of motor vehicle.
A replacement BMW cowl top panel is an inexpensive accessory which is also easy to fit. In light of the significant damage that can be done to the important equipment that is housed beneath the bonnet of a car through having a defective BMW cowl top panel, it is sensible to keep a check on its condition and, in the event of any problem, to immediately seek a replacement part.
BMW trivia
- Pop Art legend Andy Warhol was asked to hand paint a BMW, and he did the whole thing on a full-sized model in 24 minutes. He said afterwards, "I adore the car, it's much better than a work of art."
- Everyone knows what the BMW logo looks like, but do you know what it represents? Most people think it's inspired by propellers (because of BMW's aviation history), but it's really just the same colour scheme as the Bavarian flag and was designed to showcase Bavaria.
- It might not be the accessory that everyone needs, but for BMW drivers in South Africa who were worried about carjackers, the 'Blaster' was a flamethrower that shot huge flames from either side of the car. Not currently available in the UK…
- The main headquarters for BMW in Munich is designed and shaped to look like car parts. There was a whole new 'four-cylinder' building added on in 1973, and there's definitely the look of an engine about the architecture.
- One of the reasons older BMWs keep their value is because it's easy to get spare parts for even the oldest models. That's because BMW has carried on making car parts, even for cars that were built in WWII.
