About Power Steering Racks
Virtually every motor vehicle that is manufactured nowadays has some form of power assisted steering system to make manoeuvring easier for the driver. The vast majority of power assisted steering systems operate using hydraulic pressure and utilise either a power steering box or a rack and pinion system.
An essential component in the operation of the hydraulic rack and pinion power steering system is the Citroenpower steering rack. The Citroenpower steering rack is made up of a rack, which is enclosed with a steering pinion. The Citroenpower steering rack connects to the vehicle’s steering wheel. When the driver turns the steering wheel, the pinion moves and forces the steering rack to move either to the right or the left. The ends of the Citroenpower steering rack are attached to the vehicle’s front wheels so the steering rack inputs and causes them to turn.
A Citroenpower steering rack employs a pump, driven by the vehicle’s engine to supply hydraulic fluid, under pressure, to the steering rack when the wheel is turned. This makes the process of turning of the steering rack far easier.
If the Citroenpower steering rack becomes worn it is prone to develop a leak. This will make steering difficult and marks the right to time to exchange the part for a new or re-conditioned alternative.
Citroen trivia
- Unfortunately, the founder of Citroën went bankrupt in 1934, even though the cars they produced were selling well and incredibly popular. The company exists today because tyre company Michelin bought the majority of shares in the company.
- The 1934 Citroën 7CV was the first mass-produced car to have front-wheel drive, hydraulic brakes, and real suspension! This basic design found its way into subsequent models right up until three decades later in the mid-1950s.
- After WWII, Michelin owned Citroën and wanted to make a car for the people. The Citroën 2CV was designed for driving on French roads, so it was incredibly sturdy, and tests were carried out by driving through ploughed fields with trays of eggs on the seats. Although changes in design happened, some version of the Citroën 2CV was in production from 1949 all the way through to 1990.
- In 1968, Citroën bought control of the Italian car firm Maserati. That purchase led to the design of the Citroën GT, which came with hydro-pneumatic suspension and a V6 engine. It did well in terms of sales, but production of the last version, the DS23 Pallas Electronique, was stopped in 1975 after the '73 oil crisis.
- In 2019, the Citroën DS was voted in the UK as the 'coolest car ever', with writers and marketers calling it the Brigitte Bardot of cars. In second place was the E-Type Jag…
