Daewoo Lanos Common Problems and Solutions
Burning Smell
Problem:
There is a burning smell noticeable inside the car, and there may also be visible smoke. The check engine light will usually be illuminated as well.
Solution:
On the Lanos, this is likely to be a melting camshaft position sensor. If you don’t address the problem, then it’s going to start to spread to the camshaft cover and the wire harness. In extreme cases, it will lead to a full-sized fire. Replace any melted sensors as quickly as possible to save yourself a lot of headaches. We always have camshaft position sensors in stock for the Lanos, so you get quick delivery.

You will need to replace either the faulty spark plug lead or the faulty ignition coil to rectify the issue.

Problem:

Solution:
As mentioned above, this issue was subject to a recall. You will need to replace the crankshaft position sensor to resolve the issue. Once fitted, this should turn off the engine management warning light on the dashboard.

Engine Stalling
Problem:
The engine is regularly stalling.
Solution:
While there are lots of potential reasons why your car is stalling, if your Lanos was built in 1999, then you could be one of the 2,000 drivers affected by a damaged wiring harness. That harness is constantly rubbing against one of the body seams in the floor panel. The whole wiring harness will need to be replaced, which is a part that you can find on our parts list. Make sure that when you install it that you position it where it won't come into contact with the door seam.
