The Sirion is a supermini hatchback that was produced between 1998 and 2010 by Japanese manufacturer Daihatsu. The car wasn''t sold with the Sirion name in Japan; the name was used on export versions of the JDM Daihatsu Storia from 1998 to 2004 and the Daihatsu Boon from 2004 to 2010. The Daihatsu Sirion is a low cost car that''s economical to run, although parts are becoming expensive as there are no UK distributors.

The Daihatsu Sirion replaced the Charade and was exported to the UK from 1998 to 2010. There were two generations of Sirion produced, which were the rebadged export versions of the Daihatsu Storia and Daihatsu Boon respectively.
First generation Daihatsu Sirion (1998 - 2005)
The first generation Daihatsu Sirion arrived from Japan in 1998. It was available with a choice of two engines: a 1.0 L three-cylinder with 54 bhp and a 1.3 L four-cylinder with 86 bhp. Both were available with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. From 2001, the 1.3 L engines were uprated to 103 bhp and could reach a top speed of 111 mph with a 0 - 60 speed of 9.6 seconds. The Daihatsu Sirion is a fuel efficient car with both sized engines managing around 50 mpg.
For those looking for something a little sportier, Daihatsu released the Rally versions. The Rally 2 (two-wheel drive) and Rally 4 (four-wheel drive) used the 1.3 L engine with 108 bhp and a class-leading 0-60 mph sprint speed of 8.1 seconds (or 8.9 seconds for the Rally 4).
Overall, the Daihatsu Sirion offered a reasonable level of standard equipment for the money. In terms of safety, driver and passenger airbags were standard on all trim levels and the Sirion gained a three-star Euro NCAP safety rating in 2000. Parkers praise the "cast-iron mechanical reliability record" and state that the car has no common faults.
In 2001 the Sirion received a facelift with the majority of changes occurring at the front of the car and inside. The grille design was updated and the dashboard extensively redesigned with a more luxurious appearance.
Second generation Daihatsu Sirion (2005 - 2010)
The next generation Daihatsu Sirion was based on the 2006 Toyota Yaris and was sold in Japan as the Boon. The new Sirion was designed for European tastes and was larger than the first generation. The second generation is ideal as a city car with improved handling, light steering and a tight turning circle.
Bridging the gap between the supermini and small family car categories, the Daihatsu Sirion has a large interior with good legroom throughout. Parkers says it''s "deceptively spacious" and there''s enough space in the back for two adults to sit comfortably for short trips. Even the most basic model comes with impressive standard equipment for such a small car and all Sirions come with air conditioning, a CD player, electric windows and remote central locking. The Sirion also comes with numerous safety features and thrifty fuel economy.
The Mk 2 Daihatsu Sirion was available to buy with a choice of three petrol engines. The 1.0 L three-cylinder was the entry level model and had 69 bhp, with the ability to do 0-62 mph in 13.9 seconds. This is the most frugal engine and can return 57 mpg. The next engine option was the 1.3 L four-cylinder which had 87 bhp and cuts the 0-62 spring down to 11.4 seconds. Added to the lineup in May 2008, the 1.5 L engine offers 103 bhp and a 0-62 time of 10.5 seconds. Even this more powerful engine averages 46 mpg.
The Sirion received a facelift at the end of 2006 and was exported to Europe in 2007. Since January 2013, Daihatsu cars are no longer sold in Europe. This has meant parts are becoming increasingly expensive so when your Sirion needs to be serviced looking to a breaker yard for replacement parts should allow you to save money.
