Fiat Brava Common Problems and Solutions

Water leaking into passenger footwell

Problem:

If you have noticed water leaking into the passenger footwell, you have blocked drainage.

Models affected:

Solution:

You will need to clear any leaves and debris from the drain holes. It is best using plastic cable ties to clear the leaves as anything metal will scratch the paint, eventually leading to rust.

Doors creaking when closing

Problem:

If your doors are creaking when closing, this is a common problem on the Fiat Brava. Loose bolts that hold the door strut about ¾ open cause this. It is not the bolts on the hinge that take the weight of the doors that is causing this.

Models affected:

Solution:

Locate the bolts behind the plastic cover on the inside lower wall of the door and check if they are loose. If they are loose, you will need an allan key to tighten them.

Rear window wiper jet fault

Problem:

If your rear window wiper jet has stopped jetting out water then it is most likely caused by the pipe coming away from the nozzle and thus disconnecting, stopping the flow of water.

Models affected:

Solution:

You can reconnect the pipe to the nozzle again to fix the problem. You may want to add a little glue to stop it from coming loose again.

Loss of power

Problem:

If your Brava has started loosing power and the fuel injector light has come on the dashboard, then you have a problem with the fuel injectors. The main power loss will be intermittent.

Models affected:

Solution:

You will have to replace the faulty injector and we would strongly recommend that you change all injectors at the same time; otherwise, you will get irregular running.

Erratic idling

Problem:

You may have noticed that the engine on your car is not idling too well. It is common on these cars for the idling to be erratic, jumping from around 900 and 2000rpm and not sitting at a steady speed. This problem is caused by a fault with the idle control valve. Does the video below look anything like your problem?

Models affected:

Solution:

Before going out and buying a new idle control valve, you could first try cleaning out the metal pins, paying particular attention to the area near the springs. This may resolve the issue, otherwise you will need to go ahead and purchase a replacement part.
