Lights coming on without turning them on
Problem:
When you start the engine and notice that the lights are automatically on without switching them on, it is a problem with one of the light switches. They are known to melt, closing the switch in one position.
Solution:
You can't just buy this switch on its own as it comes as part of a cluster, called the indicator light switch cluster. This will need replacing.

Electric problems
Problem:
A very common problem on the Idea is with the electric windows. If you have noticed that the windows are going down, but will not go back up, and it doesn't work with any of the controls, this is a common problem with these vehicles. The problem seems to be particularly common on the passengers side window.
Solution:
The first thing to try is the connections. Remove the inside door panels and check the connections to the switch, as they are known to be loose. If this doesn't work make sure you check the window regulator. If this doesn't fix the problem, take the vehicle into a specialist.

Heating problems
Problem:
If you have found that the heating is not working as it should, particularly not blowing out any hot air, then the usual cause is an air block in the cooling system.
Solution:
You will have to bleed the cooling system, but be very careful to wait until it has cooled down or you could burn yourself, which some have done in bleeding the system when the coolant mixture is still hot. Acceleration problems
Problem:
You may have noticed that your Idea is having trouble accelerating, which is a common problem with this vehicle. It is most commonly a problem with the ECU, but can sometimes be an issue with the throttle position sensor.
Solution:
Take the car to a professional and have a diagnostic check done. This will help identify the exact problem. You may need a software update if it is the ECU problem, or will have to replace the throttle positions sensor if this is the issue.
