About Fuel Filler Flap
The Focus Ford fuel filler flap is a flap or covering which conceals the hole where you put the fuel into a vehicle. The fuel filler flap protects and covers the top of the pipe that connects to the petrol tank.
Usually made of plastic, aluminium or steel, fuel filler flaps are often mounted on a hinge or function with a spring mechanism. The fuel filler flap looks a bit like a miniature door and can be located on either side of the vehicle, towards the back, often on the quarter panel or rear wing. Usually lockable, sometimes linked up to the car's central locking system, the fuel filler flap gives peace of mind when leaving your vehicle parked unattended.
The Focus Ford fuel filler flap serves to prevent dirt, dust and other unwanted debris from entering the fuel pipe and potentially clogging up and damaging the filters. It also functions to stop fuel from spilling, leaking and evaporating out of the vehicle. The Focus Ford fuel filler flap also prevents others from accessing your fuel supply and siphoning the fuel.
Usual reasons for replacing this part include damage to the fuel filler flap or the opening mechanism. Purchasing a Focus Ford fuel filler flap will ensure the part fits perfectly with the make and model of your vehicle.
Ford Focus trivia
- The Focus was originally intended to replace the incredibly popular Ford Escort. However, at the last minute, Ford decided that the Focus should be a whole new range entirely, and it wasn't a bad idea at all.
- One of the most famous users of a Focus is Pope Francis, who chose not to use the now-classic Popemobile and opted for a Ford Focus instead. The blue model has the SCV 00919 registration number.
- The first Focus World Rally Car was entered into the 1999 Monte Carlo Rally, with Colin McRae and Simon Jean-Joseph behind the wheel of two specially designed cars. Unfortunately, the Focus was found to have a water pump that was not allowed, and the Focus team was excluded from the event (although they returned for the Safari Rally later that year and won).
- Ken Block, an impressive five-time medal winner at the X-Games, as well as being a rally racer, helped Ford to develop the 2016 Ford Focus RS.
- Although the original version of classic Brit cop show The Sweeney had detectives racing around in a Ford sedan, the 2012 remake saw an upgrade to the 2012 Ford Focus ST hatch. "Get your trousers on, you're nicked."
