History of Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is a compact SUV that has been in production since 1995. It''s known for offering buyers a robust interior and highly practical set of features as standard. So far there have been four generations of the CR-V, each receiving a good reception in areas across the globe. It has won a number of awards, including 2015 ''Best Car for Families''. The Honda CR-V is known for its practicality. It was one of the first compact SUVs to hit the market. It''s quite a reliable vehicle, scoring four out of five stars for adult occupant safety at the Euro NCAP crash tests in 2002. Warranty Direct ranked the CR-V ninth out of 30 compact SUVs, with a reliability index score of 72, compared to last place''s 326 and first place''s 38. The score is based on various factors relating to reliability, including the number of times a car fails, the cost of repair and time spent off the road[1] due to the repairs.

First generation Honda CR-V (1997 to 2001)

The Mk1 CR-V was Honda''s first in-house designed SUV and was introduced in Japan in 1995 as a concept. It was displayed at the Chicago Auto Show in 1996 and put on sale that same year. It was released with one trim level, known as the LX model. It was powered by the 2.0 litre straight four B20B, which produced 126 horsepower.

Second generation Honda CR-V (2002 to 2006)

The second generation CR-V featured a full redesign, based on the seventh generation Honda Civic. The Mk2 was powered by a K24A1 engine. Later buyers also had the choice of a 2.2 litre turbodiesel engine and a powerful 2.4 litre K24A engine. It also received a slight facelift in 2005, introducing new 16 inch wheels rather than 15 inch. The facelift also included changes to the taillights and headlights.

Third generation Honda CR-V (2007 to 2011)

The Mk3 CR-V was launched in 2007. Unlike the previous CR-V models, the third generation featured a rear liftgate rather than a slide opening rear door. The third generation model is both lower and wider than the previous models. It''s powered by the latest K-series 2.4 litre inline four cylinder Honda engine.

The CR-V received a facelift in 2010. Honda changed its style, powertrain and equipment. This included a redesigned front fascia and new horizontal slate chrome grill.

Fourth generation Honda CR-V (2012 to present)

The fourth generation Honda CR-V is powered by a 2.4 litre iVTEC inline four engine, which produces 185 horsepower. Buyers also have the option of a 2.0 litre R20a inline four engine and a 1.6 litre i-DTEC. The Mk4 is much the same as the previous model. Honda have introduced a 2015 model in Europe, which will offer three engines and three gearboxes.
