About Steering Column Stroud Covers

A Land Roversteering column stroud cover is a component that is designed to preserve the integrity of the steering column in front of the dashboard of the car. The steering column is the mechanism that connects the steering wheel to the steering mechanism and transfers the input of the driver, in turning the steering wheel, to the movement of the wheels themselves. In addition, the steering column section of the car houses various electrical components and wires as this location allows easy access to other areas of the electrical system such as the fuse box.

A Land Roversteering column stroud cover is generally made from plastic and is coloured black. It comes in two separate pieces. One of these is fitted below the steering column whilst the other is attached to the top side. Both sections have pre-drilled screw holes. These two pieces are joined together to completely enclose the steering column.

As it is important to ensure that no part of the steering column is exposed, it is essential to replace the Land Roversteering column stroud cover if it is damaged. The part is inexpensive and easily replaceable. Because of its straightforward design it is also relatively simple to fix a new Land Roversteering column stroud cover to a car’s steering column.

Land Rover trivia

  • Land Rover was notorious for trying to find ways to avoid paying taxes and extended that to their customers too. They built the Defender 110 so that it could (just about) fit 12 people! Technically, that meant that they could class it as a bus, and owners didn't have to pay standard road tax.
  • In 2012, Land Rover hired Posh Spice as their temporary creative director. Victoria Beckham was the key to the design of the Evoque Special edition. It came with a hand-finished matte paint job, mohair floor mats, and a matching four-piece luggage set.
  • Land Rover made the 101 Forward Vehicle for the UK military. It was originally built to haul howitzer cannons! The vehicle is so high, in fact, that a step had to be built into the front wheel so that the driver could get into the cab.
  • The Range Rover designer hated what he had made. Charles Spencer "Spen" King CBE, was focused solely on designing a large V8 engine, and then just drew a box around it to show where the engine would sit. It annoyed him for the rest of his life, and he insisted that he'd only put 0.1% of development time on the car shape. He also hated that they would be used for anything other than farming, saying, "...to use them in the school run, or even in towns and cities at all, is completely stupid."
  • Land Rovers and James Bond go hand in hand. The 4x4 Land Rover has been in more Bond films than there have been Bond actors! In Spectre, the Defender SVX was customised with 37-inch tyres and more power.
