About Valances
The Land Rover valance is a largely cosmetic panel that is used to conceal structural details in a vehicle and giving it a unique look. The valance can be made out of various materials such as steel, urethane, plastic and aluminium. Each of these materials has their own benefits, for example, steel has good durability and may last longer than some of the other materials, however aluminium resists rust and is lightweight. The various merits of each Land Rover valance material should be weighed up before deciding on which is most suitable for your needs.
As well as being cosmetic, the valance is useful for protecting your vehicle from dirt and debris. It can also be used to mount foglights and other car accessories to the vehicle.
Land Rover valances can be installed in various bumper positions on the front and rear of the vehicle on the driverside and the passenger side.
If a Land Rover valance is damaged, this could impact on other accessories such as foglights if they have been installed on to the valance. Steel Land Rover valances could be susceptible to rust and plastic Land Rover valances are prone to cracking because of the material used.
Land Rover trivia
- Land Rover was the two-decade standout winner of the Camel Trophy, a gruelling off-road challenge that sees vehicles compete in Siberia, the Sahara, Australia, and other hostile terrains.
- One of the most unique vehicles ever was the floating SUV designed and built by Land Rover. Unfortunately, the Floating Ninety Defender led many drivers to believe that their own Land Rovers could also float, and many cars were driven into lakes as a result.
- The designer Charles S. King worked with Rolls Royce to design jet engines before going on to build the Range Rover. King would go onto building a car around those jet engines that then held the world land speed record, the first turbine-powered vehicle to do so.
- Inspired by the Jeeps that had been used in WWII, the first Land Rover's steering wheel was in the middle of the dashboard. This was partly to counter the need to create left and right-hand drive models for different countries.
- According to the film, Judge Dredd (1995), Land Rover will be the last ever car manufacturer in the world. The car company had a heavy presence in the film, and you can still see some film versions of the car driving around the UK.
