Lexus RX300 Common Problems and Solutions
Are you hearing a rattle coming from the tailgate? If so this is a known issue on this vehicle.
You can pack out the tailgate with foam to stop the rattle.
Starting problems/ irregular idling
The IAC (Idle Air control) valve and the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves are prone to getting blocked up with a carbon build up. If you are having problems starting your vehicle and/or you are having irregular engine idling, these parts need to be cleaned out. Is the video below anything like your problem?
As mentioned above, you need to clean out these parts to sort the issue. You can remove the IAC and EGR valves and use some carb cleaner and a small brush (tooth brush) to clean out the carbon build up. This should sort the issue.
Boot motor failure
The automatic boot motor is known for failing on the RX300. If you are finding that the automatic boot is making a clunking noise when you press the button to open/close the boot, then this is an indication of the motor starting to fail. If the boot does not open at all, then the motor has completely failed.
Fitting a replacement boot motor will fix the problem.
When you open the bonnet are you noticing that the bonnet struts are not supporting the bonnet as well as they should? If so, the bonnet struts are known for failing prematurely.
You will need to fit replacement bonnet struts to resolve the issue. We want to help you find your replacement bonnet struts at a very low price.
