History of Mazda 6

The Mazda 6 is a family car that has been in production since 2002. So far there have been three generations of the 6, offering various body types including a saloon, estate and hatchback. Its a popular model from Mazda, known for its impressive performance and low fuel consumption. Warranty Direct ranked it 6th out of a total 26 listed family cars, based on numerous reliability factors. It has won various awards including 2003 European Car of the Year. It was also awarded five stars at Euro NCAP''s 2009 safety tests. Selling over one million units worldwide since its introduction, the Mazda6 is known for its stylish design, range of economical engines and great driving performance. It has won multiple awards over the years, including Auto Express' Best Family Car of 2013.

First generation Mazda 6 (2002 to 2008)

The first generation Mazda6 range consisted of a four-door saloon, a five-door hatchback and a five-door estate. Its engines ranged between 1.8 litres and 3.0 litres. In Europe, the sport model was available as a 120 hp 90 kW direct injection turbo diesel estate up until 2007.

Second generation Mazda 6 (2007 to 2012)

The Mk2 Mazda6 was launched in 2007, seeing its premiere at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Based on the Mazda GH chassis platform, the Mazda6 Mk2 offered the same three body styles as the first generation. This generation of the Mazda6 was awarded 2010 Family Car of the Year by What Car? magazine. A wider range of engines were offered with the second generation, ranging from 1.7 litres to a powerful 3.7 litres.

Third generation Mazda 6 (2013 to present)
