Mazda RX-8 Common Problems and Solutions
Gears Slipping
Problem:
The gears are slipping
Solution:
If you're lucky, this is caused by nothing more than a lack of oil. Top up your oil levels and test to see if this resolves the slipping issue. If it doesn't, then it's going to be a bigger problem. You'll have to check your gearbox and engine for any obvious faults. Any damaged parts will need to be replaced with our spare parts if you can spot the problem. In serious cases, this is going to mean a full clutch system replacement. You'll be able to find the right clutch on our parts list.

Noisy Brakes
Problem:
The brakes are very noisy when they are deployed.
Solution:
Your brake drums have most likely become too dust-covered. You'll have to buy a brake parts cleaner from us to resolve the problem. You may also notice that the brake pads are touching the drum, so adjust those.

Fuel Leak
Problem:
You are using excessive oil or have noticed oil leaks on the road when you have been parked for a while.
Solution:
This is a very serious problem with the RX-8. 15,000 of them were recalled for this fault, which is caused by the car parts close to the exhaust pipe melting. At the time, Mazda simply fitted an insulating heat pad to the fuel tank. If your Mazda is affected, check for the heat pad. If it's not there, you will need to repair any damage that's already been caused and install the protective heat pad which you can get from us.

Loss of Steering Control
Problem:
Occasionally, the car's steering becomes unresponsive.
Solution:
This is a problem with one of the suspension joints. It was a problem that saw 4000 models built in 2003 recalled. You'll need to replace the faulty suspension joint, which we can deliver.

Excessive Vibrations When Driving
Problem:
The car vibrates a lot when you are driving. The vibrations increase the faster you drive.
Solution:
Mazda RX-8s built in 2003 were recalled because of a problem with the heat insulation. It was prone to cracking and falling off, particularly around the dynamic dampers. That is what is causing the vibrations. You will need to replace the insulation with a better type from our list of Mazda parts.

Coolant Level Warning Light
Problem:
Even though you have plenty of coolant in the tank, the warning light on the dashboard is still illuminated.
Solution:
Your water coolant reserve tank sensor is most likely faulty. Try cleaning it first, but if this doesn't turn the light off, then you will need to buy one today and replace it. This is a very common issue in RX-8s.

RX-8 Won't Start
Problem:
You can get your car to turn over, but it won't fire.
Solution:
Your first step here is to check the engine codes. This will usually help identify the precise issue. However, if it doesn't, there are a few other things you can try. First, listen to the fuel pump when you turn the ignition on. If you can't hear the usual humming noise, then your fuel pump isn't working, and it will need to be replaced. You'll be able to find the pump on our site, and we can deliver it quickly.
