Mercedes-Benz SL Common Problems and Solutions
Misfiring/lack of power
Problem:
The throttle body is known to get clogged up with a carbon build up on the SL. If yours is blocked you will be noticing such symptoms as the engine misfiring, poor idling and a lack of power when accelerating.
Solution:
You can unblock the throttle body on this car to improve the overall performance and stop the issues mentioned above. To clean this part out you will need something like a toothbrush and some throttle body cleaner. You will need to remove the rhrottle body to do this. Boot leaking
Problem:
If you are finding that there is water leaking into the boot, it is usually caused by a failure of the boot seals. If it is leaking in water, you will have wet/damp carpets, but you also need to check the spare wheel compartment underneath the carpets, as this is prone to corrosion when there is a water leak.
Solution:
To fix this problem you will need to fit replacement seals, but you will also need to dry out the carpets and the spare wheel compartment. If there are early signs of corrosion, you will need to rub the area down, treat it and then paint with appropriate paint. We can help you find the replacement boot seals at a very low price.

Roof rattles
Problem:
The convertible version of the SL is known for having problems with the roof making a rattling noise. This rattling noise can be heard whilst driving, particularly over rough surfaces or speed bumps.
Solution:
This issue is not as difficult to resolve as you might think. You will need to have the roof slightly adjusted and the seals lubricated to resolve the issue, but make sure it is done by someone who knows what they are doing.
