About Side Doors

The MINI side door is used by the driver and the passengers sitting in the back seats of the car, to enter and exit the car.

A standard car door usually opens outwards and is usually fixed to the frame of the car by a hinge. The MINI side door is fitted with a section of glass, which makes up the car window.

Most manufacturers of modern cars favour aluminum for parts such as car doors, because it is strong durable and rustproof while being lightweight. Car doors can also be made of steel and strong plastics. The interior of a car door, referred to as the car door panel, will usually consist of a strong plastic cover, lined with various materials such as leather or vinyl, to blend with the rest of the interior design.  In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, the car door panel houses controls such as electric window controls, and the locking mechanism for the door.

Whether  the    model>  side door    has  been  damaged,  not  working  properly,  needs replacing  due  to  general  wear  and  tear  or  you're  simply  renovating  your  car,  it's  important  when replacing  the side door that  you  purchase  a    MINI side door  to ensure it's compatible with the make, model and year of your car so that it not only fits your car correctly but also blends in with the design and appearance of your car.

MINI trivia

  • Consistently voted the most popular British car of all time, there are almost 500 specialist car clubs dedicated to the various makes and models of Mini. And that's just in Britain. Globally, there are an additional 260 clubs all celebrating the Mini make.
  • It might have been a tight fit, but 27 people can fit into a Mini. The Guinness Book of Records confirmed that 27 could fit into the classic model Mini, although 28 people managed to get into the BMW Mini in 2012. The 27-person record was performed by Dani and the Miniskirts during the London to Brighton Mini-Run.
  • 10 years after he invented the Austin Mini, Sir Alec Issigonis was knighted in 1969 for his contribution to Britain.
  • The Mini's designer, Sir Alec Issigonis, didn't like car windows that had to be rolled down. In fact, he didn't think that cars should have side windows at all!
  • In 1959 you could buy yourself a brand new Mini for just £497. That's about £2,342 in today's money. At the time, Minis were owned by members of The Beatles and (much to everyone's surprise) Enzo Ferrari.
