About Door Lock Mechanisms
The Nissan door lock mechanism driverside consists of several sub components that together allow the door to be locked and unlocked via the key, remote, levers or buttons. In most modern cars the mechanism is centrally controlled by an electronic system. Some cars have manual locking mechanisms with each door needing to be locked independently.
Most of the door lock mechanism is housed within the door itself behind the inner door card although the central electronic control unit will be under the dashboard or elsewhere in the vehicle.
The Nissan door lock mechanism driverside generally consists of a lock barrel, actuator, locking mechanism, knob or lever, switch, connecting rods and clips. The components work together to control the locking of doors on the vehicle.
Door lock mechanisms can fail due to wear and tear of mechanical components or failure of the electronics. This can be as a result of corrosion, broken or damaged wiring, blown fuses or faulty electronic components including switches, actuators or the central control unit (ECU).
Nissan trivia
- The Nissan Patrol is a powerhouse of a vehicle, and currently holds the world record for a production car pulling an aircraft. The SUV wasn’t allowed any modifications to tackle this impressive feat, and managed to pull the 170-tonne plane a massive 50 metres.
- The Nissan GT-R is widely considered to be the fastest street-legal car in Europe, after beating both Ferrari and Porsche on the Nürburgring racing track. It is currently the fastest production car in the world.
- Nissan built the very first limo and made it specifically for the Emperor of Japan. The car was powered by a growling V8 engine and was just over six metres long.
- The Nissan Patrol SUV is also in the record books, holding the title of the Largest Synchronised Car Dance. In 2018, 180 Patrol SUVs performed the vehicular dance in Dubai.
- The Nissan Patrol began production in 1951, making it the oldest production SUV on the planet. Admittedly, the design has changed a bit since ‘51.
