About Steering Lock & Keys
A Nissansteering lock and key is an important safety and anti-theft device that is fitted to most modern motor vehicles. The device was first used in motor cars in the late 1960s and early 1970s and played an important role in drastically reducing the incidence of car theft. The Nissansteering lock and key is normally fitted to the vehicle’s steering column beneath the steering wheel. The lock is generally associated with the vehicle ignition switch and is activated and deactivated either by way of a key or via the vehicle’s electronic control unit.
If the key barrel of the Nissansteering lock and key becomes worn or is jammed by a foreign object it may not be possible to disengage the lock. If this cannot be rectified by a locksmith it will be necessary to access a replacement part. This involves the removal of the steering column cover and locating the locking mechanism, which is normally wrapped around the steering column. On some models it is possible to buy a replacement part with the same key number as the damaged lock. This saves on the cost of buying a new key and also avoids the possibility of having to carry a separate key for the ignition/steering lock and the vehicle’s doors.
Nissan trivia
- Nissan and the French manufacturer Renault have had a long and successful partnership, sharing technologies and manufacturing resources.
- The Nissan Patrol is a powerhouse of a vehicle, and currently holds the world record for a production car pulling an aircraft. The SUV wasn’t allowed any modifications to tackle this impressive feat, and managed to pull the 170-tonne plane a massive 50 metres.
- The Nissan GT-R is widely considered to be the fastest street-legal car in Europe, after beating both Ferrari and Porsche on the Nürburgring racing track. It is currently the fastest production car in the world.
- The Nissan Patrol began production in 1951, making it the oldest production SUV on the planet. Admittedly, the design has changed a bit since ‘51.
- Nissan has become the car brand most associated with a Galaxy far, far away. In 2016, they partnered with Disney and Lucasfilm, just in time to market their Nissan Rogue SUV when the Star Wars spin-off Rogue One hit cinemas. The collaboration worked, with Nissan selling 40,005 Rogues in 2016 alone.
