History of Peugeot 407

Peugeot Launched The Peugeot 407 In 2004, As A Large Family Car To Add To Their Vehicle Lineup. The French Automaker Manufactured The 407 Until 2010 In A Variety Of Different Body Styles, Including Saloon, Coupe And Estate Models, All Of Which Came With Both Diesel And Petrol Engine Options. Peugeot Launched The 407 As A Successor To The 406, Which Had Been Hugely Successful. January 2011 Saw The End Of The 407, When It Was Replaced By The 508 In 2011. The European Car Of The Year Website States That The 407 Was One Of The Runner-Ups For The Car Of The Year Award In 2005.

The Peugeot 407 was a good move for the French manufacturer, available in a variety of formats. It won a number of awards during its lifespan, including Best Family Car at the British Insurance Car Security Awards.

Peugeot 407 (2004 - 2010)

Peugeot launched the 407 during 2004, as a successor to the 406 - which had proved to be a hugely successful vehicle. The new streamlined style of the 407 was seen as quite radical, and a step away from the look of its predecessor. A sloping shape with a large front grille and steeply raked screen pillars all added to the modern, futuristic feel.

Motoring press praised the 407 for its quiet engines and comfortable interior, with a spacious cabin that could take five passengers quite easily. The saloon format may be seen as less versatile than a hatchback, but the large boot and spacious interior help to make sure that the 407 stays family-friendly. What Car? reviews say that the diesel options are by far the better drive, although you may pay more for them. The 407 was available in S, SE, SV and Executive trims, although the entry-level S model came equipped with airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, climate control and CD player, so many stuck with this model.

Shortly after the launch of the 407, Peugeot unveiled the 407 SW - an estate version of the original vehicle. The coupe model was then launched at the beginning of 2006. Just before this, in 2005, sales of the Peugeot 407 peaked at 259,000 units, with over 55,000 sales outside of Europe.

In 2008 Peugeot gave the 407 range a facelift. In 2009 a representative from PSA Peugeot Citroen announced that the successor to the 407 after it is no longer produced would be the 508, which would also succeed the larger 607.

The 407 received a five-star safety rating for adult occupants during Euro NCAP safety testing on both the saloon and coupe models.
