About Power Steering Boxs
Power steering, also known as power assisted steering, makes steering a motor vehicle easier for the driver by reducing the amount of force that is required to be applied to the steering wheel when trying to manoeuvre the car and almost every vehicle that is built nowadays has some form of power steering system.
Although electric power assisted steering is rising in popularity, by far the most prevalent system at present is hydraulic power.
Hydraulic steering employs a pump, which is normally driven by a belt. The pump generates pressure and the driver’s control is provided by either a rack and pinion or a Peugeotpower steering box. Whichever of the two systems is used, the basic operation is the same. The fluid pressure generated by the pump is used to push against a piston. When the steering wheel is turned, pressure flows to one side, causing the piston, which is attached to the steering gears, to move. The driver is thereby able to allow hydraulic pressure to do most of the work involved in turning the steering wheel.
Although the rack and pinion system is felt to provide lighter weight and greater control precision, the Peugeot power steering box is considered to be harder wearing and possess greater durability.
Peugeot trivia
- In 1913, one of Peugeot's motorsports team, Jules Goux, not only won the Indianapolis 500 but also broke the World Speed Record. He was the first European to win the Indy 500, and the 7.6-litre car was dubbed the fastest vehicle of the time.
- Peugeot has won the European Car of the Year an incredible five times. The earliest win was in 1969, and the latest was as recently as 2017 (the Peugeot 3008).
- Peugeots, especially the 504, are incredibly popular in Africa and have been affectionately called Africa's workhorse. The 504 is a model that seems particularly well-suited to the rough terrains of Kenya and Ghana.
- You know the name Ettore Bugatti and the brand that bears his name, but did you know that Bugatti also designed the four-cylinder engine in 1912 for the Peugeot Bébé? You can't miss that unmistakable Bugatti look once you know that fact, and the car quickly became France's best selling car.
- Lots of car manufacturers tried building electric vehicles at some point, but Peugeot had more success than others in the 1940s! Fuel restrictions promoted the design, and the car came with four 12-volt batteries that meant a range of 80km on a single charge and a top speed of 32km/h.
