About Power Steering Racks

Virtually every motor vehicle that is manufactured nowadays has some form of power assisted steering system to make manoeuvring easier for the driver. The vast majority of power assisted steering systems operate using hydraulic pressure and utilise either a power steering box or a rack and pinion system.

An essential component in the operation of the hydraulic rack and pinion power steering system is the Peugeotpower steering rack. The Peugeotpower steering rack is made up of a rack, which is enclosed with a steering pinion. The Peugeotpower steering rack connects to the vehicle’s steering wheel. When the driver turns the steering wheel, the pinion moves and forces the steering rack to move either to the right or the left. The ends of the Peugeotpower steering rack are attached to the vehicle’s front wheels so the steering rack inputs and causes them to turn.

A Peugeotpower steering rack employs a pump, driven by the vehicle’s engine to supply hydraulic fluid, under pressure, to the steering rack when the wheel is turned. This makes the process of turning of the steering rack far easier.

If the Peugeotpower steering rack becomes worn it is prone to develop a leak. This will make steering difficult and marks the right to time to exchange the part for a new or re-conditioned alternative.

Peugeot trivia

  • Peugeot has won the European Car of the Year an incredible five times. The earliest win was in 1969, and the latest was as recently as 2017 (the Peugeot 3008).
  • The first diesel engine prototype from Peugeot was built in the 1930s, but they didn't start releasing models commercially until 1959 (the 403).
  • You know the name Ettore Bugatti and the brand that bears his name, but did you know that Bugatti also designed the four-cylinder engine in 1912 for the Peugeot Bébé? You can't miss that unmistakable Bugatti look once you know that fact, and the car quickly became France's best selling car.
  • In 1913, one of Peugeot's motorsports team, Jules Goux, not only won the Indianapolis 500 but also broke the World Speed Record. He was the first European to win the Indy 500, and the 7.6-litre car was dubbed the fastest vehicle of the time.
  • It was also in 1913 (some might say because of the Indy 500 win) that Peugeot were responsible for the production of half of all of the cars in France. That quickly made them one of the world's biggest names in the automotive industry.
