About Wings
There are areas of the road behind the car and to the sides which are out of the driver's peripheral vision which require a clear and unobstructed view of the road behind in order to drive safely. The Rover wing mirror is an exterior mirror which enables the driver to see these 'blind spots' enabling clear vision of any traffic nearby and any potential hazards. The wing mirror is an important visual aid and safety feature.
Wing mirrors can be either manual or electric and are usually mounted in the door pillar on the driver side and passenger side doors. Both manual and electric wing mirrors can be adjusted vertically, horizontally, and diagonally to the suit the height, line of sight, and seat position of the driver.
Electric and manual wing mirrors can be folded in close to the car to avoid damage when parked.
Broken, smashed and chipped mirrors will, of course, need replacing. Naturally over a period of general use, manual and electric wing mirrors will suffer from general wear and need replacing with one that is compatible with the model and make of your car.
Rover trivia
- The Rover 200 and 400 series, commonly known as the R8 Rovers, are also called Wedges by owners, due to their unique shape.
- The MGF is what is known as a part bin special, which isn't as bad as it sounds. It means that the MGF uses elements and (actual) parts from older cars. The vented front discs are the same as the Maestro and Montego.
- Rover worked with the BRM F1 team to make the aptly named Rover-BRM. It took a lap of honour in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1963 as the first gas-driven prototype sports car.
- Although there were a few Rover-made cars released in the ‘80s, none of them had the word Rover on any of the badging. Instead, they were called Austins, but they did have a similar, Viking-inspired badge.
- MG Rover sold all of its key assets to the Nanjing Automobile Group in 2007 after going into administration.
