About Brake Padss

The brake pads are two pieces, per wheel, made of metal lined with a heat resistant material.

The Saab brake pads are housed in the brake caliper which straddles the brake disc, one pad on either side of the disc. When the footbrake is applied the pads are forced hydraulically via pistons onto the spinning discs to which the wheels are attached consequently causing the vehicle to reduce speed.

Brake pads need to be renewed periodically depending on conditions and usage. Signs that the pads need to be renewed can include noise when applying the brakes and a deteriorating

performance of the brakes on some makes and models the pads incorporate a wire attached to the pad that sends a signal to a warning light in the control panel to warn of the need to check the pads.

Due to the high energy forces, heat, friction and stresses involved with the braking system in the area of the discs and wheels, it's of the utmost importance that all components are in good order. Replacing this part with the Saab brake pads will ensure complete compatibility with the make and model of your vehicle.

Saab trivia

  • The Saab car badge is a very stylized version of the wing from an aeroplane.
  • After the death of James Bond creator and writer Ian Fleming, the writer James Gardner took over writing duties for the super spy. He immediately had Bond driving a Saab 900 Turbo, and Saab even built a replica of the 'Silver Beast' which can still be seen in the Saab Car Museum.
  • The world's first soft-top hybrid car was the Saab BioPower Hybrid Concept, and it premiered at the 2006 Stockholm Motor Show. The car ran off a combination of pure ethanol and electricity, and so is also the first hybrid to be 100% free of carbon emissions.
  • Saab was the first company to use a wind tunnel to test their cars, but they didn't use a full-sized vehicle. Instead, they built a Saab 92 at 1:10 scale.
  • The Saab concept car, the EV-1, was unveiled in 1985 and had a few cool features. One was the addition of solar cells to the roof (to power a ventilation fan) and self-repairing bumpers.
