About Cross Members
The SEAT cross member is a structural part of the car body which holds the engine and/or transmission in place.
The SEAT cross member is more often than not made of steel, and usually contained within a box that is bolted across the underside of the car, to the bottom of the chassis.
The SEAT cross member forms part of the bodywork of the car and therefore is built to be strong and solid and able to withstand the weight of the engine and/or transmission. Being a structural part, the SEAT cross member assists with the overall handling of the car and helps to keep the body panels solidly in place and in the correct position.
It is vital that the SEAT cross member is in sound condition and working properly as it is paramount to the structural safety of the car. Prone to rust caused by water from the road and damaged caused by debris from the road, over time the SEAT cross member will eventually need replacing. If damaged the SEAT cross member will need replacing with one that is compatible with the make and model of your vehicle.
SEAT trivia
- SEAT is the only car company that designs, develops, and manufactures cars in Spain.
- The SEAT Ibiza was designed by the same man who designed the Mark 1 VW Golf, the Lotus Esprit, and the DeLorean DMC-12. Giorgetto Giugiaro is well worth a Google.
- SEAT is an acronym that is much, much easier to say than Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo.
- SEAT had a 30-year close relationship with Fiat. However, it ended on a sour note when the companies went their separate ways, and Fiat tried to sue SEAT for similarities between the SEAT Ronda and the Fiat Ritmo. SEAT won the case after using a yellow highlighter to show the court all of the differences between the two cars.
- The SEAT Ateca won the 2017 Fleet Management Awards for Best Midsize SUV, beating competitors like the BMW X1, the Range Rover Evoque, and the Kia Sportage.
