About Tonneau Covers
For drivers of convertible cars, a SEATTonneau cover is a valuable accessory to protect the unoccupied passenger seats and cover any luggage or other personal property that is left there when the car is unattended.
The three principal uses of the SEATTonneau cover are to keep the heat in a convertible car, to prevent the buffeting that occurs as a result of air being caught in the passenger compartment and thereby increase fuel economy, especially when the car is driven at high speed and, finally, to conceal any items that are left in the car when the driver is not there. When a passenger is being driven in the car and the SEATTonneau cover is not required it is easy to detach and store in the boot of the car until it is next needed. It is possible to use a SEATTonneau cover as an alternative to a soft top or hard top.
A SEATTonneau cover will normally be made from leather, vinyl or similar material. It is manufactured to the dimensions of the convertible vehicle whose unoccupied compartment it is to cover. The Tonneau cover stretches across the whole of the passenger compartment of the vehicle and has a zip fastener which enables all but the driver’s seat to be securely covered.
SEAT trivia
- In their first year of selling in the UK, SEAT sold a less than impressive 24 cars. By 2017, they were selling just under 4500 every single month.
- SEAT is an acronym that is much, much easier to say than Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo.
- In 1986, 51% of SEAT’s shares were bought by Volkswagen. Then, Volkswagen ended up buying even more shares and ended up with 75% ownership.
- When SEAT was formed in 1950, there were only around three cars per 1000 people in Spain. In 2015 that number had risen to 593 cars per 1000 people.
- SEAT had a 30-year close relationship with Fiat. However, it ended on a sour note when the companies went their separate ways, and Fiat tried to sue SEAT for similarities between the SEAT Ronda and the Fiat Ritmo. SEAT won the case after using a yellow highlighter to show the court all of the differences between the two cars.
