About Glove Box Light Assemblys

A glove compartment is the compartment that is built into a vehicle’s dashboard. It is believed that it is so named because drivers would invariably wear gloves and the glove compartment, also known as the glove box, was what was used to store them. Although most models of vehicle have only a single glove compartment, which is located on the passenger side of the car above the footwell, some models do have more than one.

To assist in identifying the contents of the glove box, many manufacturers have included a light that  automatically switches on whenever the glove box is opened. This process is controlled by a component known as a Suzukiglove box light assembly.

A Suzukiglove box light assembly is located in the interior of the glove box. In a typical system, the switch contact in the Suzukiglove box light assembly is usually turned on. As soon as the glove box door is opened the light will come on. The contact is broken when a spring loaded lever is depressed by an arm that is connected to the glove box door. This happens when the glove box is closed, causing the light to go out.

If a glove box light assembly is faulty, it is relatively easy and inexpensive to access a replacement part from an auto electrical parts retailer or motor component shop.

Suzuki trivia

  • A lengthy and controversial court case seriously affected Suzuki's reputation. An article in Consumer Reports in 1996 said that the Suzuki Samurai 4x4 was easily tipped over. Sales dropped after the review, and Suzuki sued the magazine. They hoped to get more than £60million, but after eight years, the case was settled out of court.
  • Known for their motorbikes as much as their cars, Suzuki is the builder of the world's fastest bike, the Hayabusa. It has been clocked at over 186mph.
  • General Motors still has a 3% share in Suzuki, although this is considerably less than they used to have. Suzuki bought back 17% of the shares that GM had after the company started losing money in 2006.
  • Suzuki has joined forces with a Japanese firm called Hukato to try and win the Lunar XPrize announced by Google. The winning entrant is the first to land a vehicle on the moon and take high-def pictures of at least a 500 metre section of the moon.
  • Suzuki is the sponsors of the Milton Keynes Dons, the League One football team. Although that's not very prestigious, they do also sponsor the Italian Serie A team, Torino.
