About Glove Box Light Assemblys

A glove compartment is the compartment that is built into a vehicle’s dashboard. It is believed that it is so named because drivers would invariably wear gloves and the glove compartment, also known as the glove box, was what was used to store them. Although most models of vehicle have only a single glove compartment, which is located on the passenger side of the car above the footwell, some models do have more than one.

To assist in identifying the contents of the glove box, many manufacturers have included a light that  automatically switches on whenever the glove box is opened. This process is controlled by a component known as a Toyotaglove box light assembly.

A Toyotaglove box light assembly is located in the interior of the glove box. In a typical system, the switch contact in the Toyotaglove box light assembly is usually turned on. As soon as the glove box door is opened the light will come on. The contact is broken when a spring loaded lever is depressed by an arm that is connected to the glove box door. This happens when the glove box is closed, causing the light to go out.

If a glove box light assembly is faulty, it is relatively easy and inexpensive to access a replacement part from an auto electrical parts retailer or motor component shop.

Toyota trivia

  • The Toyota Prius is just the latest example of why Toyota is widely considered the greenest company in the car industry. Consistent efforts at improving sustainability and eco-awareness led to them getting voted the number one Global Green Brand back in 2015.
  • World-famous magazine the MIT Technology Review repeatedly includes Toyota in its list of the world's 50 smartest companies.
  • It's not exactly a secret, but surprisingly few people are aware that Toyota also makes a couple of other brand-name cars. That's because they own or partially own Lexus, Subaru, and Scion.
  • Without the US, Toyota very likely wouldn't exist today as we know it. In 1950, the car company was struggling to fight off bankruptcy and only managed to make 300 trucks until the Korean War kicked off. The US then put in an order for 5,000 vehicles, transforming the company and its future.
  • That founder's name was Toyoda, but the name of the company was changed to Toyota because it took one less stroke to write in Japanese. Eight is a lucky number in Japan, and Toyota takes eight strokes to write, and so Toyota it is!
