About Handbrake Cables

The Toyota handbrake cable is an essential part of your vehicle’s braking system. It is connected from the handbrake to the parking brake which is connected to the rear wheels of the vehicle using a locking nut.  It is used to operate the emergency handbrake. The handbrake is also used when parking on uneven ground or on a slope in order to stop the vehicle from rolling. It is therefore essential that you keep the handbrake and the attached cable in good condition at all times, being careful to ensure that it is properly tensioned for optimum performance. This tension can be determined using an adjuster and the guide bracket that is attached to the wheel.

As the Toyota handbrake cable is used regularly, it can be prone to general wear and tear and fraying, as well as stretching through overuse. Because of the importance of this cable, it is essential to replace it as soon as you notice it’s damaged.

The Toyota handbrake cable can also become stuck and not move freely. If this is the case, you can first try lubricating the cable to see if this helps it move more easily. If this doesn’t help a replacement cable will be necessary.

Toyota trivia

  • They might be one of the biggest and well-known brand names in the world, but Toyota is still very much a family business. Every CEO so far has been a descendant of the original founder.
  • Although Toyota started making its first cars in 1937, these were specifically produced to contribute to Japan's war effort. It wasn't until 1947 that they started producing cars for civilians.
  • It's not exactly a secret, but surprisingly few people are aware that Toyota also makes a couple of other brand-name cars. That's because they own or partially own Lexus, Subaru, and Scion.
  • The company is proud of the fact (and very vocal about it, rightly) that it spends $1million EVERY HOUR on research and development.
  • The founder's son, Kiichiro Toyoda, did a trip around the US to get inspiration for car designs. That's why those early Toyota cars look more than a little bit like Chevrolets and Dodge Power Wagons.
