About Intake Manifold Flap Motors
The engine needs oxygen from the air in order for combustion to work. It's imperative that the car's engine is supplied with the correct amount of clean, filtered air. Air needs to be as clean as possible before it mixes with the fuel and burns in the cylinders of the engine. The overall result of this ensures the engine is working to its optimum, providing more power and fuel efficiency. A car's air intake system consists of several vital components that work together to ensure the air entering the engine is a steady and uninterrupted flow of clean, filtered air. The inlet manifold ensures the air or fuel/air mixture is provided to the inlet/intake ports in the cylinder heads in the engine. The Toyota intake manifold flap motor functions to help to bring the engine to a halt faster by shutting off the air supply to the intake.
The intake manifold flap motor is the flap at the entrance to the EGR valve, built into the EGR housing but separate to the EGR valve, located between the exhaust and inlet manifold, and can be seen when the intake hose is removed.
The inlet manifold, consists of a selection of pipes or tubes, usually manufactured from a specialised strong plastic, that function to deliver the air equally to each of the cylinder heads in the engine. This vital part works to ensure the air is divided evenly, so an equal quantity of air is flowing into each of the cylinders at the same time, so that precisely the right amount of air can mix with precisely the right amount of fuel in the cylinders in order for combustion to occur. Usually when the engine is running the intake manifold flap motor is in the open position, allowing air to reach the engine. The Toyota intake manifold flap motor shuts when the engine is stopped and is essentially an anti-shudder valve, helping to stop the shudder/shake that occurs when the engine is stopped. It helps to bring the engine to a halt faster by shutting off the air supply to the intake.
If this component breaks when the valve is open you may notice the engine shaking excessively when you shut the engine off. If this part breaks when in the closed position it can become jammed shut and the engine will not start as the air supply will be blocked and the engine won't get any air. Replacing this part with a Toyota intake manifold flap motor will provide a part that fits securing, works well and lasts longer.
Toyota trivia
- Without the US, Toyota very likely wouldn't exist today as we know it. In 1950, the car company was struggling to fight off bankruptcy and only managed to make 300 trucks until the Korean War kicked off. The US then put in an order for 5,000 vehicles, transforming the company and its future.
- It's not exactly a secret, but surprisingly few people are aware that Toyota also makes a couple of other brand-name cars. That's because they own or partially own Lexus, Subaru, and Scion.
- The founder's son, Kiichiro Toyoda, did a trip around the US to get inspiration for car designs. That's why those early Toyota cars look more than a little bit like Chevrolets and Dodge Power Wagons.
- They might be one of the biggest and well-known brand names in the world, but Toyota is still very much a family business. Every CEO so far has been a descendant of the original founder.
- Incredibly, there are more Toyota made cars on the world's roads than any other vehicle. It's not just high sales figures that make that viable either. Their durability means that even Toyotas that were sold 20 years ago are still on the road!
