About Servo Units
If the brake pedal is hard to push up and down this could be a sign of a faulty Toyota servo unit. This unit is part of the brake master cylinder, which connects to the brake pedal using pushrods and is typically positioned on the nearside of the engine compartment.
The Toyota servo unit is used in a hydraulic braking system to reduce the pressure required by the driver when applying the brakes. It works by using the power of a vacuum created by the suction of the intake manifold in the internal combustion engine. This reduces the amount of driver effort required when braking. The remaining power is then transferred to the master cylinder.
If a Toyota servo unit or the brake master cylinder is damaged, this could lead to complete failure of a vehicle’s hydraulic braking system. This may be evidenced by a hydraulic fluid leak, or the brake pedal being flat to the floor. If just the Toyota servo unit fails, the driver will notice an increased difficulty in depressing the brakes. As with all brake issues, it is very important that they are addressed quickly to prevent any further damage to the vehicle.
Toyota trivia
- The Toyota company got its start making automated looms in 1033. Founder Sakichi Toyoda even invented the automated loom and then sold them off to try and get into the car industry. There is still an arm of Toyota that is still in the textile industry!
- World-famous magazine the MIT Technology Review repeatedly includes Toyota in its list of the world's 50 smartest companies.
- Toyota has thousands and thousands of patents, and in 2019 it gave away an incredible 23,740 patents that had been awarded over more than 20 years. Those patents were all focused on electric vehicle technology.
- As well as their other records, Toyota is known to consistently break sales records as well. It's not just the Corolla either. They have been so successful some years that they outsold Honda and Nissan combined!
- The company is proud of the fact (and very vocal about it, rightly) that it spends $1million EVERY HOUR on research and development.
