About Steering Lock & Keys
A Toyotasteering lock and key is an important safety and anti-theft device that is fitted to most modern motor vehicles. The device was first used in motor cars in the late 1960s and early 1970s and played an important role in drastically reducing the incidence of car theft. The Toyotasteering lock and key is normally fitted to the vehicle’s steering column beneath the steering wheel. The lock is generally associated with the vehicle ignition switch and is activated and deactivated either by way of a key or via the vehicle’s electronic control unit.
If the key barrel of the Toyotasteering lock and key becomes worn or is jammed by a foreign object it may not be possible to disengage the lock. If this cannot be rectified by a locksmith it will be necessary to access a replacement part. This involves the removal of the steering column cover and locating the locking mechanism, which is normally wrapped around the steering column. On some models it is possible to buy a replacement part with the same key number as the damaged lock. This saves on the cost of buying a new key and also avoids the possibility of having to carry a separate key for the ignition/steering lock and the vehicle’s doors.
Toyota trivia
- They might be one of the biggest and well-known brand names in the world, but Toyota is still very much a family business. Every CEO so far has been a descendant of the original founder.
- The Toyota Prius is just the latest example of why Toyota is widely considered the greenest company in the car industry. Consistent efforts at improving sustainability and eco-awareness led to them getting voted the number one Global Green Brand back in 2015.
- The first car company to produce over 10 million cars in a single year (which they did in 2013), Toyota also boasts the record-breaking sales of one Corolla sold every 37 seconds (every 27 seconds in 2013). That made the Corolla the best selling car of all time!
- As well as their other records, Toyota is known to consistently break sales records as well. It's not just the Corolla either. They have been so successful some years that they outsold Honda and Nissan combined!
- Toyota has thousands and thousands of patents, and in 2019 it gave away an incredible 23,740 patents that had been awarded over more than 20 years. Those patents were all focused on electric vehicle technology.
