About Steering Rack Bootss
A steering rack forms part of the commonly used rack and pinion steering system. A rack and pinion is a type of linear actuator that consists of a coupling of gears which combine to translate rotational motion into linear motion. The pinion is a circular gear that works in conjunction with a set of teeth on the rack, which is a linear gear. When the pinion is caused to rotate by the movement of the steering wheel this forces the rack to move relative to the pinion, which has the effect of converting the rotational movement of the pinion into linear movement that results in changing the angle of the wheels.
It is important that the mechanism of the steering rack is kept clean, dry and effectively lubricated. This is achieved by encasing the end of the rack in Toyotasteering rack boots. Also known as steering rack gaiters, Toyotasteering rack boots are made from rubber and are flexible and waterproof. They are designed to keep out water and dirt and keep the essential lubricant in. If water or dirt is allowed to infiltrate the Toyotasteering rack boots or lubricant is allowed to escape it will result in wear and, ultimately, the need to replace the entire rack. It is important, therefore, if there is any sign of a problem with a vehicle’s Toyotasteering rack boots, that replacements are fitted without delay.
Toyota trivia
- Incredibly, there are more Toyota made cars on the world's roads than any other vehicle. It's not just high sales figures that make that viable either. Their durability means that even Toyotas that were sold 20 years ago are still on the road!
- The founder's son, Kiichiro Toyoda, did a trip around the US to get inspiration for car designs. That's why those early Toyota cars look more than a little bit like Chevrolets and Dodge Power Wagons.
- Although Toyota started making its first cars in 1937, these were specifically produced to contribute to Japan's war effort. It wasn't until 1947 that they started producing cars for civilians.
- As well as their other records, Toyota is known to consistently break sales records as well. It's not just the Corolla either. They have been so successful some years that they outsold Honda and Nissan combined!
- The first car company to produce over 10 million cars in a single year (which they did in 2013), Toyota also boasts the record-breaking sales of one Corolla sold every 37 seconds (every 27 seconds in 2013). That made the Corolla the best selling car of all time!
